In November 2024 I collaborated with Sofia Ramirez and the Osler Institute to curate an exhibition on health care, science and art at the Brampton Civic Hospital. The exhibition highlighted the dynamic relationship between art and science, showcasing how artistic expression can illuminate complex scientific concepts and foster understanding of difficult and taboo themes such as death and dying in the health sector. Creativity and curiosity are essential for innovation in healthcare, and this show aimed to initiate dialogues and collaborations among artists, researchers, and communities. This event part of a celebration to launch the Osler Research Institute for Health Innovation and featured talks and discussions by a number of health practitioners administrators, and artists
The exhibition featured: the following artists:
Daniela Brill estrada, Our Celestial bodies
Health Design Studio at OCADU, Threads of Time
Anupama Krishnan, Design for care conversations
Nadia Prendergast, Ain’t I a Nurse? and Imposter Syndrome
Kamaldeep Randhawa, Heart Undone
Ron Wild and Richard Kirsch, PathoMap
The event was extended to Toronto with a talk by Daniela Brill Estrada titled Shapeshifting matter for an unstable universe. This in-disciplinary artistic project challenges taxonomies and categories that divide nature into different boxes, not allowing bodies to exist freely, simply as part of the shapeshifting matter that inhabits this universe. The research tackles topics from astrophysics to origin of life research, and is based on Daniela’s own experiences in understanding her own existence outside of these categories.
